Friday the 28th April 2023 at Saint Patrick’s Community Hall, Consett, DH8 5AX marked the public launch of North East Band’s release of their first album described as a dynamic collective of writers and musicians who may well have found the key to matching poetic lyrics to wistful melodic tunes that linger long in the sunset setting prism of a lovely day.
Think a fine musical complement to challenge the finest wines that humankind can command.
On songs such as the title track, Forever and a Day and the spectacular Good Earth Song the beautiful nature centred around Medomsley woods are caught in all its mystery and beautiful unknowingness.
Human life is finite but the wonder and energy of imagination tied to memorable melodies go on forever. Politically aware in aspiration Heal Our Hearts challenges the media acceptance of American gun outrages as inevitable and coming our way soon where victims are marked only in their numbers and not in the promising lives robbed of their hopes and challenges of life.
Silver and Lies is described as Merlin’s whispered prayer and you can dance to it.
At the band’s centre is husband and wife Billy and Marianne Bailey with lyrics by Seamus Doran letting his pen weave its mysterious magic.
Steven Collins is a musical of rare talent and classical insight.
