Artist blended art and literature for designer Scotch whisky labels

Aberdeen-based artist and printmaker Charlie Hynes has enjoyed a long and illustrious career since he started out in the 1970s.

In this interview Charlie notes one of the highlights being a commission to illustrate Robert Louis Stephenson’s tales, Treasure Island and Kidnapped, for a series of limited-edition Scotch whisky labels for the Glenfarclas distillery.

Some of the subsequent bottles, adorned with Charlie’s artwork, now bring in a healthy £7,500 each at auction.
